Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Crankworthy (crankworthy.com) and the Crankworthy web application (together, the "Service"), operated as a sole proprietorship. By creating an account, using the Service, or making a purchase, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

1. What Crankworthy is

Crankworthy generates upgrade and compatibility guidance for bicycles — including component recommendations, clearance/compatibility checks, tooling lists, and step-by-step installation instructions with torque specifications — using AI (Google's Gemini models) combined with curated reference data. A free tier covers baseline assessment, upgrade selection, and compatibility verification. The complete step-by-step installation workshop guide, including detailed torque specifications and video-guided instructions, is a paid unlock that grants access for a fixed 6-month period.

2. Not mechanical advice from a professional — read this before you install anything

The Service is informational and AI-generated. It is not a substitute for service by a qualified, certified bicycle mechanic, and Crankworthy does not employ or provide access to licensed mechanics. Guidance is generated based on general manufacturer specifications and may be incomplete, outdated, or simply wrong for your specific frame, fork, or components.

Before installing any part or following any instruction from the Service — and especially anything involving brakes, steering, wheels, forks, or other safety-critical systems — you are responsible for independently verifying torque values, compatibility, and installation procedures against the actual manufacturer's documentation for your specific components, and for having safety-critical work checked by a qualified mechanic if you have any doubt about your own ability to perform it correctly. Riding a bicycle that has been improperly assembled or adjusted can result in serious injury or death.

You use the Service, and any guidance it provides, entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Crankworthy disclaims all liability for injury, death, or property damage arising from your reliance on guidance provided by the Service. 3. Parts compatibility and purchases — verify before you buy

Crankworthy is an advisory tool, not a fitment guarantee. Compatibility results, component recommendations, and the shopping lists built from them are generated from the frame standards you tell us about and from third-party catalogue and retailer specification data. That data can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong for your exact frame, model year, regional variant, or for modifications a previous owner made that you are not aware of. We do not physically inspect your bicycle.

Before you buy any part, you are responsible for confirming that it actually fits your bicycle. Check the manufacturer's own specification for both the part and your frame, and check with the retailer or your local bike shop if there is any doubt. Do not treat a “compatible” result in the Service as confirmation of fit.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Crankworthy accepts no liability for parts that prove to be incompatible with your bicycle, or for any resulting loss — including the purchase price, shipping and return shipping costs, restocking fees, currency or customs charges, the cost of additional parts or adapters needed to make something fit, workshop labour, or time lost. Any purchase you make from a third-party retailer is a contract between you and that retailer. Returns, refunds, warranties, and shipping are governed by that retailer's terms, not ours, and we have no ability to process or compel a return on your behalf.

Prices and availability shown in the Service are indicative only. They come from catalogue data captured at a point in time and may be stale; the retailer's own listing at the moment of purchase always governs. See Section 9 (Limitation of Liability) for the full disclaimer.

4. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or make a purchase. You're responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Accounts are created and authenticated through Firebase Authentication (Google), which may offer sign-in via Google, Apple, or email/password depending on what's enabled at any given time.

5. Purchases, pricing, and payment

The Workshop Guide unlock is a one-time payment (currently $9.99) that grants access to the complete installation guide for your account for 183 days (approximately 6 months) from the date of purchase.

This is not a subscription. You are charged once. Nothing renews automatically, no further payment is ever taken without you starting a new checkout, and there is nothing to cancel. When the 6-month period ends, the Workshop Guide simply locks again and the free tier remains available. If you want continued access, you can purchase another 6-month term at the price then in effect. If you buy a new term while an existing one is still running, the new term is added to the end of the current one rather than replacing it.

Access is tied to the account you were signed in to at the time of purchase. Prices are shown in US dollars and include VAT where applicable; Paddle calculates and remits sales tax and VAT based on your location. We may change the price of future terms at any time, but a term you have already paid for is unaffected.

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. You can contact Paddle directly at paddle.net. Paddle's own terms and privacy notice, available at paddle.net, also apply to your purchase.

Refunds are handled as described in our Refund Policy.

6. Affiliate links and commissions

Crankworthy links to third-party retailers — including Amazon, Jenson USA, and Worldwide Cyclery — to help you buy the parts and tools a guide recommends. Many of these are affiliate links: we earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through them, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Crankworthy earns from qualifying purchases. This doesn't influence which components or upgrades we recommend — recommendations are generated from compatibility and specification data, not commission rates — but we want you to know the relationship exists.

7. Your content and account data

The bike configurations, saved builds, and installation progress you create are yours. We store them to make the Service work (so your build and progress are there when you come back) as described in our Privacy Policy. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing us.

8. Acceptable use

Don't misuse the Service: no scraping or bulk-automated use outside what the Service itself provides, no attempting to bypass the paid-access gate, no reverse-engineering, and no using the Service to build a competing product from its outputs at scale. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate this.

9. Disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR ACCURACY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY GUIDANCE, TORQUE SPECIFICATION, COMPATIBILITY CHECK, OR INSTALLATION STEP GENERATED BY THE SERVICE IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR SAFE FOR YOUR SPECIFIC BICYCLE, OR THAT ANY PART RECOMMENDED BY THE SERVICE WILL FIT IT.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CRANKWORTHY AND ITS OPERATOR WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, INJURY, OR DEATH, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR YOUR RELIANCE ON ANY GUIDANCE IT PROVIDES — INCLUDING GUIDANCE RELATED TO INSTALLATION, TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS, OR COMPATIBILITY — EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. THIS INCLUDES, WITHOUT LIMITATION, THE COST OF PARTS THAT PROVE INCOMPATIBLE WITH YOUR BICYCLE, SHIPPING AND RETURN SHIPPING, RESTOCKING OR CUSTOMS CHARGES, THE COST OF ADAPTERS OR ADDITIONAL PARTS REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE FIT, WORKSHOP LABOUR, AND WASTED TIME. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE.

Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you in full.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above; continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, to the extent permitted by the law of your own country of residence. If you're a consumer in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction that grants you mandatory local consumer-protection rights regardless of this clause, those rights aren't affected.
