Will a SRAM DUB or Shimano Hollowtech II crankset fit a threaded BSA frame?

By Crankworthy · Published · Updated

Yes

Yes — each with its own bottom bracket. Hollowtech II uses a 24mm spindle and SRAM DUB a 28.99mm spindle, so they are not interchangeable with each other's bottom brackets, but both are made in threaded BSA versions for 68mm and 73mm shells.

Why

The threaded BSA shell is the most widely supported bottom bracket standard, and both Shimano and SRAM make external-bearing bottom brackets that thread straight into it.

The difference is the spindle. Shimano Hollowtech II uses a 24mm steel spindle; SRAM DUB uses a thicker 28.99mm spindle. A DUB crank will not go through a Hollowtech II bottom bracket, and a Hollowtech II crank would rattle in a DUB one — buy the bottom bracket that matches the crank.

Some cranks are sold in versions for Boost or particular shell widths. Check the crank listing covers your frame before buying.

Check your shell

Threaded (BSA)
The bottom bracket screws into the frame, and you can see the external cups at each side.
Press-fit
Bearings or cups are pressed into a smooth shell with no threads. That needs a different bottom bracket.
